Wales: Travel Tips

We recently connected our Merrick family line* (see relationship notes below) to the Bordorgan Hall, and our ancient family lineage in Anglesey, Wales (see blog post here).

Bordorgan Hall

We have two 'gaps' in our line. One occurred because earlier family historian looked for our Merrick line in Wales to the New World. At some point, they moved to London and invested in the Virginia Company there. Many of them became merchants to the colonies.

Because of their travels - and poor record-keeping - our connection through Daniel is based on sound 'disproving,' i.e., showing that this Daniel was the only possible settler in Talbott County, Maryland. It was a round-about method, but we trust the research.

The second problem was with the research; part of the reason we don't recommend the same book from which we got the information. We'll devote an entire post to those problems soon.

The author, Daniel Merrick, confirmed our line connects to the lineage of Isreal Merrick, active in Tioga County, Pennsylvania, in an e-mail exchange. We bought his book, but there is no Moses, Hiram nor Lester in his book.

Other observations caused me to distrust him, but we'll try to address those issues fairly in an upcoming post. Nonetheless, after long, arduous, tedious...(oh, the pain)...reading (and this is just his book) we think we've discovered where he lost our line of Merricks. More on that to come. Suffice it to say, we are related Isreal Merrick from Tioga County, Pennsylvania.

In the meantime, what about Wales? What do you know about it? We knew nothing and thought we'd share some 'travel tips' with beautiful scenery. It's the next best thing to being there.
What do you think of our connection to Wales? Are you a Merrick with pictures from there? Can we share them and your story in a blog post? E-mail me or comment below.
