Our great grandmother* (see relationship notes below) Mary Frances Gilland was born on January 23, 1884, in Indiana. Her father, Joseph W, was 26 years old, and her mother, Anna (Clancy) Gilland, was 19. She married Lemuel Fuller on January 19, 1901, in Blackford, Indiana. They had seven children.
She died of childbirth complications with her last two (death certificate here); our grandma Anna (Fuller) Merrick and her twin brother, Andrew. He also died, on January 3, 1919, in Gideon, Missouri. She was 34 years old and is buried in Muncie, Indiana. (link here)
This is her DNA story.

Lydia Gilland: Third Cousin
Lydia Gilland from Huntsville, Alabama, is a third cousin Ancestry DNA match. Ours is a not-so-unique family relationship. We are cousins, twice-over. Yeah, that has no real meaning in family relationship terms, but it should.
It means her great grandmother, Henrietta 'Etta' Fuller was the sister of our great grandfather, Lemuel. Grandaunt Etta married Thomas Gilland, the brother of our great grandmother, Mary Frances Gilland. Mary Frances married the brother of Etta Fuller, Lemuel. He ran moonshine. (link here)
SO, our DNA matches up both family lines. We share the:

Price London Fuller: Revander
Our second great grandfather, Price London Fuller, was born on December 31, 1848, in Guernsey, Ohio. The ninth of fifteen children born to Allen (Al) and Rachel (Kimble) Fuller (marriage record here), he married Harriett 'Amanda' Fry on January 7, 1876, in Blackford County, Indiana (marriage record here).
His marriage, and several censuses, records list his name 'Revander.' We've always assumed he meant 'Reverend.' Perhaps he thought himself a 'preacher,' but we've found no church records for him.

According to Mom, grandma Merrick was taken in by an older, disabled woman named Wilson because her mother died. But her grandmother, Lizzie Wilson, died twenty years before (link here).
By 1864, grandpa John Gilland had remarried and started a new family. Thirteen years later still he requested membership in the Quaker church. It's recorded in the minutes U.S., Quaker, Indiana Grant Deer Creek, Monthly Meeting Records. (link here)
It's generally challenging to trace down maiden names, and grandma Lizzie is no different. Still, we expect someone in her family to turn up as grandma Merrick's caretaker.
*Note: Relationships, such as grandmother, 2nd great, etc., are expressed from the perspective of the grandchildren of Leon Arthur and Anna Grace (Fuller) Merrick.
Terms of relationship - grandmother, uncle, aunt, cousin, etc. - are used here generically to include relatives such as fourth great grandfathers, great grand uncles, second cousins twice removed, etc.
